Michael Beall, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Michael Beall, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and the George Washington University Medical School. He completed his General Surgery and Urology training at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Beall served as a Major in the Air Force where he was honored with the Commendation Medal for his distinguished service on the organ transplantation service. Dr. Beall entered practice in 1979. He is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a clinical Associate Professor of Urology at George Washington University. Dr. Beall has been listed by The Consumers' Guide to "Top Doctors in America," the Washingtonian Magazine and the Washington Consumer Checkbook as a leader in the field of urology.

Robert Ball, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Robert Ball, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Chemistry and was inducted into Phi Lambda Upsilon, the National Chemistry Honor Society. His attended the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia where he was student body President. He pursued his Urological Surgery residency at Harvard Medical School, serving as Chief Resident in Urology at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Beth Israel Hospital and The Boston Children’s Hospital. As a Research Fellow, at Harvard, Dr. Ball performed laboratory research proving that the nerves that enable erections can be surgically repaired when damaged. His research earned international recognition and remains a seminal work in the field of nerve reconstruction and regeneration. He received the American Urological Association Mid-Atlantic prizes for basic science and clinical research. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Ball was honored with the Hartwell Harrison Award as Outstanding Chief Resident in Urology at the Harvard Medical School and the Basic Science Award from the Society of University Urology Residents. He has authored nearly two dozen articles published in the medical literature.

Dr. Ball entered practice in 1992 bringing urologic laparoscopy to the metropolitan area. He is certified by the American Board of Urology (ABU) and the American Board of Medical Examiners (ABME). He has also completed the rigors of the ABU’s 10 year re-certification process.

Dr. Ball is clinical Professor of Urology at George Washington University Medical Center, Associate Professor of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University and Director of the Urology Medical Student Clinical Clerkship at VCU School of Medicine INOVA Campus. Dr. Ball is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is the uro-oncology consultant to the Interventional Oncology Clinic at the INOVA Fairfax Hospital Cancer Center as well as a senior uro-oncologic surgeon at Fairfax Hospital. He also serves as the Director of Compliance for Dominion Urological Consultants.

Dr. Ball donates considerable time teaching medical students and residents. As Director of the VCU School of Medicine, INOVA campus, clinical clerkship in urology, all medical students studying urology shadow Dr. Ball in his office and operating rooms during their two week rotation. As a Professor of Urology the urology residents from George Washington University practice alongside Dr. Ball in the operating room and office clinic. General surgery and family practice residents also receive training with Dr. Ball.

Dr. Ball’s dedication to teaching has been recognized on numerous occasions by his faculty appointments at two medical schools. He is one of only four urologists to have been honored for "Excellence in Teaching" by the Department of Urology at George Washington University Medical Center on two occasions. He is the only urologist at the VCU School of Medicine INOVA Campus to ever receive the "Top Preceptor in Surgery" teaching excellence award from the medical student body. Patients will often encounter these students and residents in the office clinic, operating room and hospital rooms with Dr. Ball.

The Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors in America, the web site "Best Doctors" in America, Washingtonian Magazine and the Washington Consumer Checkbook have recognized Dr. Ball in their featured lists of outstanding urologists both nationally and regionally.

Dr. Ball continues to pursue his interest in the contemporary treatment of urologic malignancies with surgery, laparoscopy, cryotherapy and brachytherapy. In partnership with Dr. Simon Chung, Dr. Ball has participated in many surgical "firsts" in the D.C. metropolitan area including the first: pure laparoscopic nephrectomy, laparoscopic inguinal herniorraphy, laparoscopic pelvic lymph node dissection, and daVinci cystectomy, nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy and hysterectomy. He is frequently requested to lecture on urological issues to both medical and lay audiences.

Dr. Ball currently serves as the compliance officer for Northern Virginia Urology, PLLC. Dr. Ball spends his free time coaching his daughters’ soccer teams and is a USSF certified referee.

Simon Chung, MD, MPH, MBA

Dr. Simon Chung, MD, MPH, MBA is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University School of Medicine (recently redubbed Drexel University School of Medicine). He completed his General Surgery residency at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Urologic Surgery residency at the George Washington University School of Medicine. In addition, he has earned a Masters of Public Health and Masters of Business Administration degrees from George Washington University. He entered private practice in 1993.

Dr. Chung is certified by the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is the youngest Clinical Professor of Urology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He has always been active in the education of medical students and residents from George Washington University School of Medicine and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine-Northern Virginia campus. Dr. Chung was proud to be the GWU urology residency director at Inova Fairfax Hospital from 1995 to 2004 and has been honored with the Urology Residents Teaching Award. He has also been cited consistently as a Washingtonian Magazine Top Doctor, Washington Consumer Checkbook Best Doctor, The Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors in America, and the independent referral resource "Best Doctors" in America, among others.

Dr. Chung has been featured in numerous nationally and internationally broadcast television programs covering topics such as robotic surgery, urologic cancers, and urologic trauma management. He also has presented educational programs and seminars nationally that have focused on prostate cancer and prostate health updates. He has published a multitude of articles on urologic cancer treatments, surgical techniques and pediatric kidney function.

He is an innovative surgeon, having helped to develop revolutionary new urologic surgical equipment. Among the his surgical "firsts" in Northern Virginia and his areas of expertise are

  1. The first laparoscopic pelvic lymphadenectomy for prostate cancer
  2. The first orthotopic neobladder (bladder replacement) for patients with bladder cancer
  3. The first robot-assisted laparoscopic surgical procedures including radical prostatectomy, radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, hysterectomy, ovarian cystectomy and radical cystectomy.
  4. He has a special interest and expertise in minimally invasive urological surgical procedures including laparoscopy, endoscopy, and the No-Scalpel Vasectomy technique.

Edmond L. Paquette, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Edmond L. Paquette, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, majoring in Zoology with honors, obtaining his medical degree from The Brown University School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Washington followed by two years of service as a general medical officer with the United States Army in Germany and Bosnia. Upon his return, Dr. Paquette completed his residency in Urology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he also spent one year as a research fellow studying the epidemiology and treatment of prostate cancer.

Following residency, Dr. Paquette was Chief of Urology and interim Chief of Surgery at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While in service, Dr. Paquette served with the 10th Combat Support Hospital in Bagdhad, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dr. Paquette was honorably discharged after 13 years of service as a Lt. Colonel, having received the Meritorious Service Medal, twice, the NATO medal, Overseas Ribbon and War on Terrorism Medal. He joined Dominion Urology in 2007.

Dr. Paquette has authored nearly two dozen scholarly peer reviewed articles. His primary interests are in the treatment of prostate cancer, reconstructive urology, laparoscopy, prosthetics, incontinence and erectile dysfunction. His extensive experience includes cryo-ablation therapy of both prostate and kidney cancer, brachytherapy for prostate cancer and urologic laparoscopy. He has been recognized for his excellence as Surgeon of the Year at Womack Army Medical Center. Dr. Paquette is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.


Alison Goldfarb, B.S., PA-C

Alison Goldfarb, B.S., PA-C is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA and Philadelphia University, Philadelphia, PA where she obtained her degree as a Physician Assistant. Her post-graduate work included the study of the immune system at the College of William and Mary. Her professional career has included experience as a surgical Physician Assistant at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD where she assisted in multiple surgical procedures in the fields of Urology & Gynecology, Plastics & Reconstruction, and General & Vascular surgery. Ms. Goldfarb also has extensive experience providing physician assistant services in Northern Virginia in both the fields of Transplant Surgery and Interventional Radiology at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She is recognized and admired by her colleagues as a learned and compassionate healthcare provider. She joined Dominion Urology in 2007.

Mary M. Linn, N.P.

Mary M. Linn, R.N., M.S.N., ANP-BC CURN attended the University of the South, Sewanee and graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She entered hospital practice specializing in Medical Surgical care followed by Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department services. Ms Linn earned her Master’s degree as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA where she was awarded the prestigious “Excellence in Primary Care Award.” Mary is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, American Nurses Association, American Academy of Nurse Practitioner, and the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners.

Ms Linn has worked in many different fields of nursing throughout her career and has concentrated her work in urology since 1997. She was the supervising nurse for Dominion Urological Consultants prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Ms Linn, in addition to her skills as a caring nurse, particularly interested in the emotional personal and physical impact of urological diseases, has also participated as the research coordinator for multiple FDA approved studies, lectured both locally and nationally on Urologic Nursing themes and has authored scientific material for peer reviewed journals. Her most recent article on Prostate Specific Antigen was a selected continuing medical education program on Medscape and WebMD. She is a Board Certified Urological Nurse and has served as an executive board member of the Certification Board of Urological Nurses and Associates since 2002.
